PETER McNeil celebrated his birthday with victory in The Worcestershire Golf Club's Hope Cup.

Played in glorious conditions, members of clubs across the country also compete in the annual invitation open.

McNeil was joined by Brian Maxwell from The Kendleshire, Bristol, as they carded a winning 45 stableford points.

Andy Dunster and Phil Dance, playing from Burnham and Berrow, scored 43 while Carl Bayliss and Tony Saunders from Worcester Golf and Country Club got 42.

Dave Linnie and Phil Andrews of South Hereford returned 41 to edge out Steve Homes and Richard Cowley from Burghill Valley on countback.

Nearest the pin on the par threes were Andy McCabe, Ian Brazier, Ken Winrow and former West Bromwich Albion and Hereford United footballer Nicky Cross.

On a blustery day The Worcestershire drew 5-5 at Cotswold Hills with wins for Di and Jim Wilde, Jill and Brian Piner, Sue and Tom Wood, Joan and Gordon Herbert and Joyce Duncan and Alan Smith.

In the ladies' Jack Campbell Cup, Ali Tuck pipped Di Wilde on countback on 37 points.

Jackie Marks took third in Division One with 33 while Mary Horrobin topped Division Two with the same score.

Jill Brierly on 32 and Isabel Carmichael on 31 made up the top three.

Three seniors were tied at the top in round three of the Seniors Tankard with 38 points.

On countback Peter Taylor took the win from Keith McLaughlin and David Townsley.
