TEN-MAN Malvern Town hit back from two goals down to win 4-2 after extra-time in the Buildbase FA Vase first round at GNP Sports.

Town threatened early on and Curtis Smith’s effort was deflected wide before James Febery rattled the woodwork.

A block from Harry Wickett denied the Midland League Division One hosts’ Robert Prinzel and then the defender got in a timely intervention before Haydn Whitcombe saved well from the resulting corner to stop Adam Knight.

On the half-hour mark Malvern’s Sam Hunt drilled in an angled effort which was saved before appeals for a penalty were waved away as Febery went down inside the area.

Ben Miller set up Hunt whose strike was deflected over but GNP went ahead on 40 minutes when Scott Hammond broke through and as his initial effort was saved he fired the rebound home.

And GNP started the second period on the front foot as Aaron Dickens flashed an inviting ball across the face of goal.

Wickett blocked a stinging drive from Prinzel and the Coventry side doubled their lead on 64 minutes when James Bryson forced the ball into the net.

Prinzel had to hook a loose ball clear under pressure from the returning Dave Reynolds, who came on as substitute, but on 75 minutes a foul on Matt Turner saw Hunt fire home the resulting free-kick to reduce the arrears.

Another Hunt free-kick was gathered by the keeper and in stoppage time Harry Clark fired home sweetly from the angle to level.

There was still time for Hunt to be sent off and then Turner headed just over at the death.

In extra-time, GNP’s Luke Swinnerton was denied and Febery did well to cover on the line in their next raid.

A sharp break on 105 minutes saw Clark feed Turner but the keeper was able to block.

A deft header from Reynolds went over and the offside flag came to the home side’s rescue when Clark’s low drive was pushed out and Turner turned the ball home.

But Malvern’s pressure finally paid off when substitute Ethan Moran slotted home following good work by Clark and Turner.

Within seconds it was 4-2 as another break led by Clark ended with Moran staying cool to guide the ball home.
