CHARLIE Cain is The Worcestershire's new club junior champion.

The 16-year-old, who works in the pro shop in his spare time at the Malvern Wells course, won both the gross and nett competition with 86 and 70 respectively.

Playing off a handicap of 16, The Chase School pupil held off Peter Palmer and Harry Brimmell to win.

In the afternoon nine-hole Intermediate Elgar Academy competition, Eddie Wilson was the victor with 42 points.

Ruby Jeynes was second with 36 and third was Jack Milne on 31.

Julia Radley organised a successful lady captain’s charity day raising more than £400 for St Richard’s Hospice, bringing the total for the local charity to £3,800.

Rachel Jones, a fundraising manager from the hospice, gave a talk about their work and how much difference the fundraising was making.

The winners of the day’s three-ball alliance were Mary Horrobin, Cath Francis and Isabel Carmichael with 48 points.

In the Winners Cup for ladies having claimed an individual competition during the season, Julie Saunders finished first.

She also won the Bronze Division in the October medal on countback from Jill Brierly.

In the Silver Division, Cathy Harris was the overall winner on countback with June Jones finishing second.

In the men’s section, Tim Wright (6 handicap) had the excitement of his first hole-in-one during the October medal.

Taking a four-iron on the challenging par three fifth hole, Wright saw his shot drop for his ace.

The overall winner of Division One was Geoff Fox (6) going out in 38 shots and returning in 36 with three birdies and 11 pars, beating Andrew Perkins (11) on countback.

Stephen Homes won Division Two on countback from Peter McNeil (13) and in Division Three Greg Michael (25) beat Phil Bayliss (19) by two shots.

A big men’s field took part in the Spreckley Foursomes.

Although a wet week made it a long challenge, the weather on the day made for an opportunity to score well despite the difficult format of alternating shots between partners.

Steve Lane and Marc Davies scored 38 points to win by one shot from Duncan Rowberry and Alex Garwood-Gowers.

Neville Clarke and Jim Wilde finished third with 34.
