Newent-based Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester will once again be vying for Olympic gold.

The dressage pair get their Tokyo 2020 campaign underway on Saturday 24 July in the individual contest group stage.

They will also be competing in the qualifiers for the team competition on the same day, the pair join Charlotte Fry in representing Great Britain.

The dressage team and individual Grand Prix’s will take place on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 respectively.

Dujardin is already a three-time Olympic gold medallist but will face a fresh challenge in Tokyo as she mounts a new horse, Gio, after the retirement of the legendary Valegro with whom she won countless accolades.

Hester also has a gold medal to his name and enters his fifth Olympic Games, having made his debut at Barcelona 1992, riding En Vogue.

Carl Hester’s Yard is in nearby Newent and has housed many of Team GB’s horses over the years.

Dujardin moved to the area in 2007 with an initial plan of helping out for a few days, but 14 years later she is established as the stable’s, and Britain’s, brightest dressage star.

Dujardin and Hester’s victories at London 2012 were commemorated in the town with a gold-painted post box on Church Street immortalising their success.
