Ledbury Town's title surge took a slight wobble last week as they twice almost threw away leads to newly promoted teams.

Ledbury had been 2-0 up at half-time last week in their Herefordshire Football League Premier clash with bottom of the league and then pointless Gloucester City under-21s, but conceded twice after the break to drop two costly points in a 2-2 draw.

After the game, manager Ian Merrick felt like the draw may as well have been a defeat for the league leaders.

"It was definitely a missed opportunity, especially after being 2-0 up," he said.

"It feels like a defeat to be honest.

"We took our foot off the gas and became complacent and couldn’t get going again in the second-half.

"But credit to them (Gloucester City). If they play as well as they did in the second half they will surprise a few and take points off teams."

Having slipped up once, Ledbury went into last weekend's clash with Westfields Development needing to respond.

Again, goals from Ben Febery and Tom Boyle put Ledbury two to the good at half-time but they were twice pegged back in the second period either side of Boyle's penalty.

At 3-2, there were some nervy moments but in the end Ledbury managed to hold on and ensure they made up for their defeat at Gloucester.

The result sees Merrick's men stay top by 11 points, but Hereford Pegasus Reserves do have two games in hand on the leaders.

That gap could be closed to five if Pegasus win both.

Ledbury return home this Saturday when they host Fownhope, kick-off at 2PM.
