LEDBURY Town resumed their bid to win promotion from the Herefordshire Football League Premier on Saturday after waiting almost a month for a competitive game.

And they made sure they returned with a victory, as a 20th minute goal from Ryan Pugh and a second-half brace from Ben Febery saw them beat Wellington Rangers.

The result did come at a cost, however, as striker Pugh was taken off in the first-half with a dislocated shoulder.

The three points keeps Ian Merrick's men top of the table by four points.

Having endured their first defeat of the league season in their last encounter at the start of January, Ledbury had been unable to put that result to rest due to postponements and forfeits.

But they started well enough on Saturday, taking the lead through Pugh after good work between Town's Febery and seventeen-year-old Jake Clueit.

That lead lasted just eight minutes, however, as the home side equalised through Jordan Mann.

It was a fiery affair that was played at a high intensity throughout.

Any thoughts of more dropped points at the break continued into the second period, as Ledbury struggled to make the breakthrough.

But it finally came after 20 minutes when Febery slotted home after a series of dangerous corner kicks from new man Cosmin Micula.

The hosts tried to get themselves back in it but the result was sealed seven minutes from the end as Febery struck a brilliant free-kick into the top corner.

Ledbury are now back to having a break, such as the schedule in this league, before they take on current fifth place holders Kington Town at Mill Street for a first time this season in a fortnight’s time (KO 2:30pm).
