Ledbury RFC's first team secured a hard-fought victory over Old Halesonians in the Regional 2 Midlands West League.

The match, played at home on Saturday, December 8, ended with Ledbury winning 24-15.

The game kicked off in challenging conditions, with a muddy pitch and swirling winds that required the floodlights to be on throughout the match.

Ledbury started strong, showing good ball-carrying capabilities, with fly-half George Wallin performing confidently.

Despite the adverse conditions leading to numerous handling errors from both teams, it was Old Halesonians who first found the scoreboard.

Number eight, Sam Herrington, offloaded to centre Luke Smith, who sprinted 50 metres to score the first try of the match.

In response, Ledbury pinned Old Halesonians in their own 22 for 10 minutes, despite losing Arron Almond to injury.

However, Ledbury's scrummage remained dominant, allowing debutant winger Dave Nash to get close to scoring.

Old Halesonians' defence held firm until George Wallin sliced through their line to score a try, bringing the game to 5-5.

After a yellow card was shown to Old Halesonians' number 13, Ledbury capitalised on their advantage.

From a line-out, a well-executed training-ground move saw Josh Hill score under the posts, with Iolo Bubb converting the try, bringing Ledbury ahead 12-5.

As the game progressed, Ledbury's scrummage continued to cause problems for Old Halesonians.

With prolonged possession, Ledbury managed to get the ball through the hands, allowing Dave Nash to score a try in the corner, again converted by Bubb, putting Ledbury ahead 19-5.

In the dying minutes of the half, Old Halesonians managed to secure a late try after a line-out throw was overthrown, allowing Herrington to score.

The first half ended with Ledbury 19-10 ahead.

Old Halesonians began the second half strongly but failed to convert their territory into points.

Ledbury’s scrummage continued to be a valuable weapon in the terrible conditions.

Another yellow card for Old Halesonians on the 60-minute mark saw Ledbury take advantage.

Tom Roberts scored a pushover try, bringing the score to 24-10.

Old Halesonians managed to score a final try at the death, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.

This victory was a significant confidence boost for Ledbury, moving them up four places in the league.

The team now looks ahead to next Saturday's away game against third-placed Shipston on Stour.
