CURRENTLY sat ninth in the Regional Two Midlands Division West, Ledbury Rugby will travel away to face top-of-the-table Newent on Saturday, March 1.

It will feel like a 'David vs Goliath' match for Ledbury, as Newent have enjoyed a truly dominant showing in their league campaign so far this season.

After 17 matches contested, Newent have been victorious all 17 times. In that time they have inflicted some hugely impressive score lines on other sides in the division.

A 47-point victory over Malvern, A 35-point triumph over Hereford and a 45-point win away at Old Halesonians being some of the highlights thus far.

A similar dominant showing met Ledbury in mid-November when they lost 38-0 to Newent, hosting them at the Ross Road Playing Fields.

At this stage of the season, Newent have scored 636 points, while only conceding 195.

Conversely Ledbury have bagged 256 points thus far, conceding 450.

Ledbury will hope that they can pull off a monumental upset in the tie. However the odds are stacked against them, having won just once in their last five contested matches.

Most recently, they took a 10-5 loss at home against Moseley Oak.

In a thrilling clash on a heavy, muddy pitch Ledbury dominated in the scrum throughout.

However they fell behind early on. The side battled back to level the score line but a second half winner handed Moseley the victory.

A tough tie awaits against Newent, but Ledbury will hope to come out of it in positive spirits, as two vital matches await the side - facing the two teams sat either side of them.

The match with Newent kicks off on Saturday, March 1 at the Recreation Ground in Newent.
