Ledbury FC continued their inconsistent form with a shocking 5–1 defeat to Gloucester City Reserves in the HFA Premier Division after a lethargic performance from Ian Merrick’s side.
Merrick looked animated throughout, as his team were poor in transition and made too many defensive errors to compete with a clinical Tigers Reserves side.
A brace midway through the second period from Keaton Bienusa ensured there was no way back into the game, with Ledbury snatching a consolation goal—but the contest was all but over by then.
The home side created more chances in the first half than the Tigers but were poor around the box and wasted their opportunities in the final third.
Cosmin Micula created the best chance of the half for Ledbury early on, with his free-kick bobbling into the path of Tom Boyle, whose effort was struck powerfully but straight at the keeper.
Gloucester City also made a quick start, with Ty Duane Lake’s cushioned volley from a corner sending the away side in front early on.
Ledbury struggled to string together any meaningful attacks and were second to nearly every ball, with the Tigers looking sharp in and out of possession.
The only other opportunity of the half for the home side fell to Nathan Ince, who was unable to slot past Brayden Rodriguez from a tight angle.
The away side dictated the half from then on, with Owen Caraftis cutting in and having his shot spilled by Alex Goode into the path of Jaxson Hundt -who doubled the Tigers' lead from close range.
More chances kept falling the way of Gloucester, with Hundt coming close to grabbing his second of the match, Goode denying him with a smart stop to push the ball over the bar.
The pressure eventually took effect on Ledbury before half-time, with Caraftis’ corner finding the unmarked head of defender Mikkiel Graham, who dived in to put the match firmly out of sight before the break.
The home side nearly pulled one back just after the restart, with Micula’s clever flick finding Tom Boyle, whose shot had the keeper beaten—but Graham was alert and blocked his effort on the line.
Sam Sheen, moments later, had an excellent opportunity again for the home side, but he was unable to keep his free header underneath the bar, with Ledbury seemingly unable to convert any chances that fell their way.
They were made to pay not long after, with the visitors stringing together an excellent move which saw Caleb Thomas stroke home from a Caraftis cut-back, as the Tigers showed a ruthlessness in front of goal that was lacking amongst the Ledbury players.
Defensive errors were at the heart of the Ledbury performance—especially from set-pieces—as Ty Duane Lake should have sent the away side five clear, though he was unable to direct Shane Pierson’s free-kick goal-bound.
The score line only got worse for the home side when Bienusa grabbed his brace.

Alex Goode pushed the ball back into the danger area off of Biaya Kayembe’s free-kick, with the forward being the fastest to react, and the score line only looking to get worse.
The home side hadn’t had much to cheer about, but Ince winning a penalty and Tom Boyle converting the spot-kick at least gave them something—if only a consolation—to take away from the match.
Ledbury’s next game is against unbeaten Alcester Town, where the home side will have to be on top of their game if they are to get any sort of result from the match.
