MEET Loftus, a handsome long-haired cat who is looking for a loving new home.

The nine-year-old came into the care of the Worcester and Districrt branch of Cats Protection as his owner could no longer look after him.

Lynn Glaze, branch co-ordinator, said: “Loftus is a lovely affectionate cat, although he can be a bit shy, so he can't be rehomed in a household with young children.

"His superb long hair will need to be regularly brushed so he is looking for a home with an owner who has the time to look after him."

Mrs Glaze said people were still choosing cute, fluffy kittens or young cats over older cats like Loftus – and this puts a massive strain on the branch.

"Older cats can block up pen spaces for many months, which means we are unable to help other needy cats or kittens until the older ones are found new homes," she said.

“It is a shame because older cats have a lot to offer, as they tend to be lap cats and have much more settled natures. Though we do our very best to care for older cats, life in a cat pen is no substitute for a permanent home."
