Brave anglers defy rain to battle it out on banks

NINE anglers braved the rain to contest Barnards Green Angling Club’s first invitation match. The match was being run to promote the club to non-members and with a turn-out of six invited anglers, the idea seems to have been a success. After five hours of fishing the winner, from peg 17, was club angler Mick Harris who fished dark and light pellet to bag a 9lb 11oz net of skimmers. Second from peg five, with 8lb 3oz, was Chris Turner, an invitee, and third from peg nine, with 7lb 4oz was Craig Bray, also an invitee.

TONY Haymes and Diane Smith were crowned king and queen of the court at the Ledbury Tennis Club’s annual mixed doubles open tournament, held at the club. The dynamic duo beat Duncan Hannaford and Ann Cadman of Mathon Tennis Club in the showpiece match.

Katharine won the race in her pink 160 horsepower Suzuki engined Jedi Mk 6 car which was1.4 secs ahead of her rivals.
