AN IMPORTANT away match awaits Ledbury RFC in their Regional Two Midlands West campaign.

The side will play away against Old Halesonians at Wassell Grove Lane - a team sat one place above them in eighth position.

Old Halesonians have four points on Ledbury at present and an extremely similar record - having only won once more than the side.

Ledbury took the victory in the reverse fixture, triumphing 24-15 on home soil.

Old Halesonians took the lead on the day, with Luke Smith sprinting 50 metres to open the scoring. Ledbury responded quickly - courtesy of a George Wallin try to level everything up.

Old Halesonians went a man down with a yellow and Ledbury capitalised quickly, taking the advantage with a Josh Hill try which was duly converted by Iolo Bubb.

They quickly increased the advantage when Dave Nash bagged a try in the corner - it was again converted by Bubb.

It was a similar narrative in the second half as Tom Roberts scored a try, leaving the visitor's final try little more than a consolation.

The side will be hoping for a similarly dominant performance this weekend, and they come into the bout on a high, having recently secured their first competitive home victory over rivals Malvern since 1982.

The back-and-forth game went right down to the wire. Ledbury were forced to drop to 13 men, and Malvern took advantage to take the lead with five minutes left.

Ledbury summoned a huge effort to win a penalty, which Jack Hughes put through the posts in the final minutes - ensuring the 32-31 victory.

The result was Ledbury's only competitive win in their last five games -  a run which also included a 22-22 draw away at Hereford.

Old Halesonians have similarly won just once in their last five games - a 29-27 win over Edwardians. The run has also notably seen a 48-7 capitulation against Malvern.
