WILL the up and coming band, The Americas, find new continents of rock excellence to explore, as their career heads ever onwards and upwards?

The Birmingham-based combo have just played at the Isle of Wight Festival and last year they won the Giglutz Best Newcomer Award.

Local fans can catch up with them at Brum's Beyond The Tracks Festival in the autumn, where they will hear a sound which, according to the band's promotional material, was influenced by "motorcycles, sex and loneliness", and presumably not always in that order.

A spokesman said: "Out of their unstable lives, hedonistic habits and frenetic travels comes a West Midlands three piece, The Americas.

"The band was formed in late 2015 by Harry Payne (vocals/guitar/bass) and Aaron Whittaker (vocals/guitar/organ). The two bonded over a mutual appreciation for Bob Dylan and decided to drop their then current projects in favour of chasing that thin wild mercury sound. With a view to take The Americas out on the road they recruited the talent and young blood of Alex Bradshaw (drums)."

The spokesman added: "Since the release of their first single, “Tenth Day of May”, in November 2016 the boys had their eyes set on the road making a string of live appearances culminating in their first nationwide tour in March 2017. To mark the end of that tour they released their second single - Hot Minute. Driving, and all the while with its heart on its sleeve, the song is a sonic representation of The Americas’ Spirit. Classic song writing brought into the 21th century via the 70s rock and roll vehicle.

"It's music to ride a motorcycle to, and an Americas EP will be coming around the bend in late 2017."

Their slot at the Beyond the Tracks Festival is on September 16.
