Personal Overview - Has a career background in business, working in finance, marketing and business operations, most recently with his own local Chartered Accountancy practice. Has been involved locally campaigning on improving broadband internet access, as well as for tighter planning controls over phone mast locations. During the 2001 Parliament, he also opposed the Government's Animal Health Bill (produced in the wake of the Foot and Mouth farming crisis). Remained on the back benches early in the 2005 parliament, gaining a Select Committee membership, before joining the Opposition Front Bench in the summer of 2007.
Political History - Stood as Conservative candidate for the Forest of Dean (2001). Conservative Parliamentary spokesman for the Forest of Dean (2002-). Member of the Administration Select Committee (2005-06). Member of the Work & Pensions Select Committee (2009). Shadow Minister for Defence (2005-07), Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions (Shadow Minister for Disabled People) (2007-).
Characteristics - Governor at a junior school in Swindon (1997-2000) and currently a governor at Newent Community School. Enjoys travelling, cooking and the cinema (Local cinemas in Coleford and Cinderford).
