HEREFORDSHIRE actor Mike Evans is preparing for the performance of his life rowing across the Atlantic for Help for Heroes.

Mike hopes to break the ocean equivalent of the four-minute mile but, to reach that stage, he first needs funding of his own – a whopping £16,500.

Mike admits he has set himself a tough target, but he’s driven on by those he’s raising funds for – young men and women who went into the armed forces while he took his talents to drama school.

Mike will play his part among an eight-man crew taking the Titan across the 2,598 nautical miles between Gran Canaria and Barbados, a challenge few have ever attempted let alone completed.

“We are aiming to break the current world record of 32 days in under 30 days, the four-minute mile of ocean rowing,” he said.

“We will all be put through the most demanding experience of our lives, not just physically but mentally.”

Mike’s seen reaction so far range from intrigued to impressed, particularly when talk turns to how much he has to raise to make his row happen.

“The total cost to get on board Titan is £15,000. This pays for our food and medical supplies and insurance,” said Mike.

“On top of this £15,000 I also need £1,500 to cover travel costs either side of the row and accommodation costs while training in Gran Canaria for two weeks.”
