MOTORISTS parking in Herefordshire will soon have an easier way to pay for parking.

The PayByPhone service will be rolled out across all Herefordshire Council pay and display car parks from Monday, January 28, offering people the opportunity to pay using their mobile phone by charging the fee to a credit or debit card.

It will be available alongside the existing pay and display method.

Councillor Graham Powell, cabinet member for education and infrastructure, said: “PayByPhone is a new convenient service for users, providing helpful payment options, which is particularly good if you don’t know how long you’re going to be.

“The handy text message service lets you know when your parking ticket is due to run out, allowing you to extend your parking time without having to return to your vehicle.

“We recognise that life is stressful enough without worrying about your parking ticket, so we hope this new service will help in some small way.”

Motorists will have to call the displayed local rate telephone number and provide the car park’s identification code, their vehicle registration number and the fee will be taken directly from their credit or debit card.

In addition to the parking fee, there will be a service charge of 20p to pay by phone, 10p for a reminder text message and an additional 20p to extend the parking time.

Users will need to register their vehicle registration number and credit or debit card, which can be done at paybyphone.co.uk/registration, by downloading the PayByPhone app on a smartphone or calling 0330 400 7275.
