BROMYARD Bowls Club have been given a boost with the award of a £50,000 grant from Sport England.
Since the club moved to the Clive Richards Sports Ground, Tenbury Road, in 1996, their artificial playing surface has never been replaced.
It became evident in 2012 the surface desperately needed work, so the club campaigned tirelessly towards trying to secure a cash award.
A carpet bowls green needs to be replaced every 15 years or so.
Fellow Herefordshire club Wellington managed to land a Sport England grant and replace their surface 18 months previously.
Bromyard secretary Liz Shimmin received the good news from Sport England about their successful grant application.
The windfall will help replace the playing surface and any money left over will be used to maintain and improve the clubhouse.
