A COMMUNITY near Ledbury is celebrating having a new village green.
For the past nine months a team of residents, working in partnership with Community Voluntary Action-Ledbury and District, have made major alterations to the area of land opposite the Farmers Arms pub, known as Pool Piece.
This area had been designated as a community space and children’s play area since the 1990s.
But it had never been a satisfactory area, as the land was on a steep slope and was often wet or flooded.
It was also shaded by very high hedges and trees.
Now, thanks to funding from Biffa Award the village has been able to reshape the land and create a stepped auditorium and a levelled flat area for community use.
In addition new play equipment has been installed as well as improvements in access to the site.
Hedges have been cut back and trees removed and pruned to give greater light to the site. This has enabled wild flowers and native bulbs to be established, improving the range of fauna and flora.
There will be an official launch of the site on Saturday, July 12.
