EXCITEMENT is building for the eighth annual Throckmorton Air Show – and organisers are promising a bigger and better spectacle than ever before.

Wingwalkers, aerobatic display teams and daredevil pilots will entertain the crowds with their show-stopping stunts while vintage military machines will add a touch of nostalgia to proceedings.

The jewel in the crown of the line-up however is the Vulcan XH558, the 55-year-old bomber known for its role in Britain’s iconic V-Force.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the show in Throckmorton, near Pershore, on Saturday (June 6) to cheer on the Vulcan and the rest of the performers.

Angus Nairn, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We are hoping to see about 20,000 visitors this year and 2015 is set to be the biggest show so far.

“To have Vulcan confirmed is great and everyone that sees it will be amazed.”

Bosses at the Vulcan to the Sky Trust – a charity that owns and operates the “world’s most popular aircraft”, raising £2 million a year to keep it in flight – are similarly confident their machine will add the wow factor to the Worcestershire event.

Robert Pleming, chief executive of the trust, said: “Vulcan XH558 is an iconic example of that remarkable period of intense post-war innovation that made British aviation technology the envy of the world.

“This is one the last opportunities to hear a Vulcan’s spine-tingling howl as she climbs high into the sky for another dramatic display, or to see her rolling onto her side to reveal her giant delta silhouette.”

The Vulcan will stop flying at the end of this season to become the main attraction at a new heritage centre and education initiative.

Throckmorton Air Show will also feature performances from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, The Royal British Legion Extreme Human Flight Team, the Twister Aerobatic Team, Breitling Wingwalkers, the Great War Display Team and a Supermarine Spitfire.

Back on the ground monster trucks, dog agility shows, a climbing wall, face-painting and rally experiences will keep families entertained.

The event will also be raising money for five charities - Combat Stress, Cancer Research UK, the Royal Air Forces Association, Fly2Help and the Midlands Air Ambulance.
