THE JOHN Masefield High School is putting its Performing Arts College credentials on show, with the help of a man-eating plant.

Sixth formers at the High School will present ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ on Friday December 11, from 7pm, "having funded, directed and produced the entire production themselves".

A school spokesman said: "Rehearsals have demonstrated the wealth of talent in Key Stage 5 as all technical, design and performance elements have been handled entirely by the students, with help and guidance provided by supportive specialist staff in dance, drama, art, technology and music.

"This performance builds on the continued successes of the vibrant and dynamic Performing Arts faculty. This academic year has already seen the school celebrate the talents of over one hundred students from all year groups in the Autumn Dance Showcase, and we enjoyed over 150 students eagerly auditioning for the spring production of Singin’ in the Rain."

The spokesman added: "We successfully entered two GCSE Drama classes into the national Shakespeare for Schools Festival at Hereford Courtyard Theatre.

"We place an importance on students experiencing professional level performances and so far this term have been to the National Theatre in London, Cheltenham Everyman Theatre, Malvern Theatres as well participating in four high-quality workshops run by theatre practitioners exclusively for our students."

To mark the school’s Christmas festivities, the school's "twice-victorious Elgar in Hereford Young Musicians of the Year music department will treat the local community to a plethora of seasonal performances, both instrumental and vocal, from our talented orchestra, ensembles and choirs."

This will involve over two hundred students.

The spokesman added: "The pinnacle of our Winter music calendar will be the evening Christmas Concert on Thursday December 17 at 7pm in St Michael’s and All Angels’ Church in Ledbury.

"John Masefield High School and Sixth Form Centre is a Performing Arts College committed to delivering a balanced curriculum.

"In recent years, ex-alumni have gone on to study at world renowned institutions such as RADA, London College of Music, Italia Conti and Bird College of Dance."
