A CLEAN-UP of a popular beauty spot has been organised for climbers next month.

Graham Hassall of Summit Mountaineering and Bob Thomas of Contour Outdoors have organised YatFest to clean the Symonds Yat crag.

The two climbing companies often organise trips to the spot near Ross-on-Wye.

Mr Thomas said: "It is aimed at climbers and whoever else wants to come along but primarily climbers. We met with the Forestry Commission who control access to Symonds Yat. They are very responsive to a lot of requests to commercial operators like ourselves. It is about time we did something back.

"It is in need of some TLC."

On April 1 they will be meeting up at 10am and then climbers will follow a climbing route and clean away vegetation, with advice from Forestry Commission ecologists, and clear any loose rock. This will be followed by a social.

The next day as a thank you to those who took part instructors will run a couple of workshops relating to climbing. safety and techniques.

Trekitt in Eign Street, Hereford is sponsoring the event and is providing free goody bags and some equipment.

Mr Thomas said he hopes it will become a regular event.

It is free entry and takes place from 10am to 4.30pm on April 1 and 2. Meet at the View Point Cafe.
