MORE than 20 of the county's food and drink producers have been recognised in the national 'Great Taste' awards.

The awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, have been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world.

There were 21 Herefordshire winners, including Tyrrells crisps, chutney-maker Myrtle's Kitchen and Pips Cider.

And all but one of the winning foods and drinks – made by 12 local producers – are available at family-owned and run Oakchurch at Staunton-on-Wye, which also won two awards for its chicken and ham pie and their steak and kidney pie.

Nick Price, Oakchurch manager, said: "We’re absolutely delighted with the news for both ourselves and all of our suppliers.

“Especially Pips Cider who are the only Herefordshire producer to achieve a three-star award this year for their medium cider.

“We count ourselves to be so lucky to be located in rural Herefordshire where amazing food is always available in great abundance, right here on our doorstep.

"It really makes a difference to the quality and the flavour and we’re proud to be able to display the Great Taste Awards 2017 logo throughout our food hall as a distinct indication of high quality and great-tasting food."

Oakchurch is hosting the Taste of Herefordshire Food Festival this Saturday and Sunday (August 12 and 13).
