What is Ledbury Community Hub?

The Ledbury Community Hub provides a safe and welcoming space for all residents of Ledbury and the surrounding areas to come together; to build stronger and more resilient communities.

As we begin our mission to become a wraparound Hub for the communities of Ledbury, we have four main focuses for the next three years. They are based on the feedback we have received and the data that we have seen and have access to. If you would like to shape the work that we do in the future, then please let us know on the get involved page. Our four target areas (or the O, YES targets) are:

O - Outreach

Reaching and including the isolated and vulnerable communities and individuals.

Y - Youth

Providing activities, development opportunities and mentoring support.

E - Education

Creating and delivering opportunities to learn more, develop skills and try new things.

S - Space

Having a free to access, warm and safe space in the heart of Ledbury for communities to thrive.

When and where do you meet?

The Hub is situated at 8 New Street and has lots of events (see here https://www.ledburycommunityhub.org.uk/whats-on.html). Here are the main ones:

Eat together

Part of the joy of food is in sharing it with others, which is why we are hosting community meals on our opening days (Thursday, Saturday & Sunday) at 12.30PM. The meals will be open to all and will be a chance to meet others in the local area, while enjoying a nutritious and affordable lunch. All food will be served on a 'pay what you want' basis.

What do we mean by 'pay what you want' - this is a voluntary contribution for the meal based on how much you can afford. It is open to all payment structures that will range from £0 upwards. If you can afford to support us with a large contribution, then we can afford to support those that can't. If you can't, then that's ok! As with all community initiatives, we are as reliant on you as you are reliant on us.

GAMES NIGHT ft. D&D

3RD FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH: 6.30PM

Table top games in good company, with plant-based food packed with flavour and drinks on tap! Play our in-house games or bring some of your own to share with others. Our lovely DMs also run a series of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, perfect for beginners and seasoned adventurers alike - Let the quests begin...

BOOK CLUB DINNERS

1st FRIDAY OF THE MONTH: 7PM

Join Katie and the bookworms for a fun-filled fundraising evening of literary delights. Each month we meet to discuss a different book and share a meal inspired by the story (all food is served on a 'pay what you can' basis).

HOMEND POETS: OPEN MIC

LAST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH: 6.30PM

A monthly meet for all things spoken word; be it your own, or poetry from the mouths of others, put to music, or simply recited. A lively meet-up that never fails to disappoint!

How long has the hub been going?

The Ledbury Community Hub was formed at the end of 2023 with support and advice from Talk Community and HVOSS.

You recently announced you are back open again, why were you closed and for how long?

The Space was previously occupied by Pot & Page and hasn’t been open as a cafe since June 2023. We will be open for meet ups tea, coffee & cake throughout our opening hours (Thursday, Saturday & Sunday: 10.30AM - 2.30PM) as of 11th April. There are various craft, support and activity clubs starting soon within these times (watch our socials or subscribe to our mailing list for updates).

If people want help from the Community Hub how do they go about it?

You can email us at hello@ledburycommunityhub.org.uk or drop in and chat to us. Look for volunteers in yellow t-shirts!

Do you need anything at the Community Hub which people might be able to help with?

We are on the lookout for volunteers to help with various activities - you can sign up on our website. We are also looking for people who would like to set up groups and meet-ups with us. We can support with access to up to £250 to get groups going and can offer the space for free.

We are also working with Mind to find a way provide more mental health support in Ledbury as well as opportunities for residents who don’t have much community locally. If you would like to shape the way that we create these services, please visit the get involved page of our website and fill out a survey for us. The more of this feedback we have, the better we can support our communities in Ledbury.

Has demand for Community Hub service increased in recent years?

Over the winter we ran four Winter of Wellbeing sessions for young families. We gave away 91 free hot meals over course of the activities and played games, wrote stories and made art with many many children. The demand and support for these was overwhelming.

Since the closure of so may support services and youth centres in the last two decades, there is little by way of support and community for young people and young families. Our task over the coming years is to change this, bringing people together for sustainable change
