THE oldest camera club in the United Kingdom dedicated to monochrome work, based in Kington, is appealing for new members.

The Border Monochrome Camera Club is a small group of amateur and enthusiast photographers who are based in Kington and live either side of Offa's Dyke.

Formed in 1976 as group dedicated to monochrome work, members have witnessed the steady transition from traditional photographic processes to modern digital imaging.

Its members continue to represent both approaches but share a common interest in valuing the appeal of a well-produced photographic print rather than just a computer image.

Club chairman Clive Clarke said: “We would like to attract new and enthusiastic members to the club. At the moment we have eight regular members and in the past at least half a dozen of our members have gone on to be professional photographers.

“We would welcome anyone interested in monochrome photography, whether they are complete beginners or more experienced.”

The club holds regular monthly meetings on the first Friday of each month at 7.30pm at the Burton Hotel in Kington, where they also permanently display their work for the benefit of the residents and other guests.

The club members are currently preparing for their annual exhibition at the Burton for the Kington Festival, which includes 70 prints based on the theme ‘Another Blot on the Landscape’ from June 1 until September.

Members also take part in club competitions and compete against other local clubs in Hay-on-Wye and Builth.
