WORK has started this week on a new recycling centre to serve Kington and the surrounding villages.
Mercia Waste Management, which is contracted by Herefordshire Council, has announced work has started on a Household Recycling Centre (HRC) off the A4111 to the south of Kington.
It is modelled on similar split-level facilities at Ledbury, Ross-on Wye, Leominster, Bromyard and Hereford.
It will be able to accept a range of recyclable materials, green garden waste and mixed waste from householders on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The site will be run by Mercia’s sister company, Severn Waste Services, and is expected to be open by Christmas.
The HRCs in Herefordshire are currently diverting some 73 percent of delivered waste away from landfill.
