MALVERN continued their Worcestershire League programme with a fine 4-2 win over Halesowen.
The lower two boards won quickly with Matthew Jordan driving his opponent’s king into a mating net and Geoffrey Herbert conjuring up an attack from an apparently innocuous position.
Quiet positional play was the order of the day on boards three and four where Leigh Canham and John Knee drew their respective games.
On the upper boards, Ian Clarke appeared to be under pressure but gained enough counterplay to equalise and, with the match decided in Malvern’s favour, Brian Turner’s game was agreed drawn.
