Town target 10 more wins
12:44pm Monday 23rd December 2013 in Sport
MALVERN Town have set themselves a target of 10 wins from their last 15 matches as they aim to finish in the West Midlands Football League Premier Division top 10.
With 2014 just around the corner, Malvern have already played 29 league fixtures, more than any other team in the division, and are 13th in the table.
But manager Les Jones believes they are capable of better and reckons a minimum of 30 points from the remaining fixtures will be sufficient to achieve their aim.
Jones said: “I know we have played a few more games than everybody else but we have got 15 left and 10 of those are very winnable so we are targeting those matches.
“We are aiming for the top 10 and need those wins to have a chance of doing that.
The other five are against the cream of the crop in the league but we are going to give it a really good go.”
Malvern were due to host Bromsgrove Sporting in the Worcestershire FA Senior Urn quarter-finals on Wednesday night but the game was called off just under an hour before kickoff because of a waterlogged pitch.
It is now set to take place at the Langland Stadium on Wednesday, January 8.
Jones said: “It was really disappointing because we were looking forward to it and were also in good spirits after a good win away from home.
“The pitch was playable up until about 4.30pm but then the rain came down. It was the right call.”
Town will be hosting runaway leaders Lye Town this weekend.
“We are keen to get a positive result against Cradley to set us up for Lye,” the Malvern manager added.
