WORCESTER Nomads hosted a year six open cricket tournament for primary schools in west Worcestershire.

More than 100 children flocked to Bransford for the Worcestershire Cricket competition with Hanley Swan winning the final against Powick.

But Hanley are unable to make the county final at Worcester’s Old Elizabethans on Wednesday, June 25, so Powick are likely to take their place.

Nomads also staged all the other west district finals with Powick winning the year five mixed honours, Kempsey the year four open tournament and Abberley Hall the year six girls’ competition.

Worcestershire Cricket’s schools’ tournaments give eight to 11 year olds the chance to compete against others.

They are part of the board’s growing Chance to Shine coaching programme.

Children can show off the skills picked up at their coaching sessions.

Nomads boast a developing junior section and are welcoming newcomers to the club.

Terry Birt, junior cricket development officer at Nomads, said “Local primary school children have enjoyed playing on our pitches on the outfield at Bransford with many of them having their first experience of playing cricket.”

The club’s junior nights are on Fridays from 6pm until 7.30pm at their Whitegates Farm ground.

For more details, parents can contact Birt on 07771-548042 or junior chairman Matt Ormerod on 07715-535337.
