A YOUTHFUL trio from Ledbury Bowling Club won the £300 first prize in the Sunday Triples at the Weston-super-Mare men’s open tournament.
Ben Harwood, who turned 26 the day after his success, and brothers Dan Holmes, 19, and Tom Holmes, 14, beat a Weston-based team 8-7 in the final, having won all their matches during the day.
Ledbury’s Mike Ricketts, winner of both the singles and pairs at the previous year’s tournament by the seaside, was out of luck this time.
He went out in round two of the singles before Ricketts and Adie Burbridge, of Worcester’s St Dunstans club, lost in the semi-finals of the pairs to Gareth Burbridge, Adie’s son, and Doug Lewis, of Gloucester City, who were the eventual champions.
The Holmes brothers and Harwood were presented with their prizes by tournament chairman Paul Tubb.
