WORCESTERSHIRE will check on the fitness of batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore before finalising their side for today’s Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Lancashire Lightning at New Road (10.30am).

Kohler-Cadmore suffered a finger injury while spilling a chance fielding in the slips during Thursday’s cup setback against Yorkshire at Headingley.

The 19-year-old immediately left the field, with Brett D’Oliveira replacing him for the remainder of Yorkshire’s innings, and Worcestershire are awaiting the results of an X-ray on the finger.

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: “Tom caught one on the end of a finger dropping a catch.

“The physio (Ben Davies) was just a bit concerned he may have done some damage to it, a little bit more serious, like a fracture.

“What we’ll do is have it X-rayed and we’ll just find out whether he has got a little hair-line fracture or not.”

Rhodes has named a 14-strong squad for today’s clash with Gareth Andrew and Charlie Morris added to the 12 players originally selected for the trip to Headingley.

Andrew has been captaining the second XI and is available to play purely as a batsman while continuing his rehabilitation from a back problem.

Paceman Morris was not included for the encounter with Yorkshire as Rhodes continued to rotate the seamers during a hectic part of the season.

The County face four one-day cup matches in six days with Lancashire followed by Hampshire away on Monday, Gloucestershire at home on Wednesday and Leicestershire away on Thursday.

They then go straight into an LV= County Championship clash with Gloucestershire at New Road on Friday.

It means there is little practice time for Rhodes with his squad but that is something the former England wicketkeeper is accustomed to from his own experiences as a player.

Rhodes said: “We move on from the Yorkshire game and know what’s ahead of us. As with the Yorkshire game, we will approach today in the right frame of mind and do our proper preparation and planning for the game.

“It’s not easy and we are in playing mode at the moment. I remember as a player myself we had very few practice days.

“Because we tended to play so much cricket, your practice was done on the morning of the game or out in the middle. Maybe it’s just the same at the moment.”

Rhodes admitted it had been the wrong decision to bat first at Headingley with Worcestershire dismissed for 141 and losing by six wickets.

He added: “I think we have to put our hands up and say we got the toss wrong.

“It was a really strange wicket. Mitch (Daryl Mitchell) and I both felt, with 90 overs already played on it, it was a hell of a lot drier than most fresh wickets you get at 10.30am.

“Our studs went in and flaked it a little bit, which told us that it should be dry enough to bat and score some runs. The ball certainly jagged around far more than we expected.

“We were short of runs and it didn’t do as much when we bowled. It certainly didn’t seam around as much or jag off the wicket like it did for the Yorkshire bowlers early morning.”
