LEDBURY RFC Colts produced a clinical display last weekend as they scored eight tries in a 46-12 win at Shrewsbury Colts.

Full-back Charlie Pallett was the star of the day as he crossed four times in the convincing win that saw Ledbury take a maximum five points.

Ledbury quickly asserted their dominance seven minutes in when number eight Ben Roberts crashed over from short range. Converted by Iolo Bubb (0-7).

Nine minutes later, George Skerrett bustled his way over to extend the lead and with 26 minutes played, Pallett scored his first of the afternoon to make it 17-0.

Shrewsbury came back into it but they could not capitalise and on the counter-attack, Ledbury clicked into gear.

Winger Jo Pugh intercepted a probable try-creating pass on Ledbury’s 5m line and raced into the Shrewsbury half before being hauled down. The ball was recycled and Pallett finished off a brilliant move in the corner.

The second half started as the first ended and centre Josh Bishop added another try to his season’s tally by muscling over just to the right of the posts. Conversion by Iolo Bubb (0-29).

It was now looking like an extremely one-sided match, but Shrewsbury were given a slither of hope 14 minutes into the second half, when a Ledbury miskick was gathered up by the home team and grounded in the left corner (5-29).

Normal service resumed four minutes later when a training ground move was perfectly executed from a five-metre scrum, with Iolo Bubb’s inside pass to Charlie Pallett allowing him to score his hat-trick.

It was going to get even better for Pallett shortly after when he broke through the defensive line to score his fourth of the match.

Curtis Williams added the final try before the hosts crossed for a second consolation to complete the scoring.
