IT was a good weekend for Ledbury's U15s side on a quieter week at the rugby club.

With no senior team games, the U15 side took centre stage on Sunday afternoon in their North Mids Preliminary round clash with Telford at Ross Road.

And they put on a show for those in attendance, just narrowly missing out on the 50-point mark in an entertaining game with their visitors.

They will now progress into the first round proper of the prestigious local competition.

Elsewhere at the club, despite not being in action, Ledbury's first team received nationwide recognition for their perfect start to the season. They were named by England Rugby as their September 'Team of the Month'.

Ledbury currently sit joint top of the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) after five games, having taken a maximum 25 points (five bonus-point wins).

But they face competition as two other clubs have repeated that feat; league leaders Luctonians 2s and Leamington.

So it looks set to be a three-horse race at this early stage of the campaign and this Saturday Ledbury will be looking to keep the pressure on Lucs when they host Alcester at Ross Road at 2PM.

Their visitors sit fifth in the standings having won two and lost two of their four matches to date.

Elsewhere this weekend, the club's Colts are in action at home to North Midlands Colts Division One leaders Newport (Salop) U18s.

Salop have won all three of their matches so far this season and have taken a maximum 15 points.

As for Ledbury, they sit fourth in the table but have only played one game so far in the 23/24 campaign and that was a convincing 33-5 win away at local rivals Hereford U18s.

That game between Ledbury and Newport takes place at Ross Road on Sunday afternoon (2PM).
