LEDBURY Town were denied a narrow victory at the weekend as Ludlow Colts rescued a late point in their Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division clash.

Ledbury keeper Alex Goode was sent-off with five minutes to play and Ludlow's Josh Dalsan continued his goal-scoring form to pinch a point for the visitors.

Craig Howell's chip in the first-half had given Ledbury the lead, but they were unable to build on it and Ludlow's Regan Tonkinson made some good saves to keep the away side in the contest, before the late drama saw Goode sent off and Dalsan poke home the equaliser.

It has been a mixed bag for Ledbury in the early months of the new 2023/24 season, who have not been quite as ruthless as they have in the previous two seasons.

And it was the visitors who went close early on when Dalsan hit the post and there were also claims for a penalty on the striker mid-way through the half.

But it was the home side who took the lead and it was some finish from Howell, whose lovely chip beat Tonkinson and nestled in the back of the net.

The visiting keeper made a big save after the break to keep Ledbury from making it 2-0 but Ludlow were still creating chances at the other end, Tom Dwyers cross almost going straight in, with the crossbar saving the home side.

The drama was saved until the final five minutes as Ledbury keeper Goode was sent off after tempers frayed. And Ledbury's frustrations were compounded when Dalson scrambled the ball home.

Ledbury drop to third in the table as a result and have played two more games than the sides around them at the top of the league.

They were due to play Gloucester City Reserves on Wednesday night, but due to 'logistical issues' with the pitch, the game was cancelled.

They now have a week break until they are back in action, at home to Hereford Pegasus Reserves (October 28).
