HANLEY Swan and Upton Town drew 1-1 in their Cheltenham Association League Division One derby.

The two teams had also drawn 1-1 in the first game of the season last September.

Their latest clash exploded into life in the second half after a fairly quiet opening period.

Upton’s Tom Crump saw a free kick easily gathered up, and Hanley’s Cathal McTernan shot wide following a flowing counter-attack.

Town could have sneaked an opener just before the break, but Tom Morris could not quite make strong contact close to goal following a scramble.

With the wind behind them, a young, talented Hanley side came out on the attack in the second half, with Mark Wright and Kev Moore both going close.

After weathering the storm, Upton took the lead as Crump played in Luan Gashi, who took his time before sliding in the opener on 55 minutes.

Town went close to a second shortly after when Simon Craddock’s header was superbly saved, and the ball just ran away from Gashi in front of an open goal.

Hanley went back on the attack and were only denied by a good stop from keeper Chris Darby.

But Then Blake Bishop equalised with a well-executed lob from the edge of the area into the far corner.

McTernan then missed a sitter for Hanley, blasting high and wide from close range.

Craddock had another effort saved for the visitors before being denied again late on by a full-length save.

Both teams still had chances at the death, with Hanley’s Wright missing the target and Upton’s Gashi failing to take a great chance with only minutes to go.

A point was probably fair on both teams after an entertaining second half.

On Saturday, Upton host league leaders Lakeside as Hanley travel to second-placed Whaddon United.

Meanwhile, the West Midlands League games for Malvern Town and their under-21s, Bromyard Town and Powick Rangers were all postponed due to the weather conditions.

Malvern Vale’s games were also called off.

Herefordshire League Division One leaders Bromyard stormed to a 10-1 success at basement boys Bartestree Reserves.

They have a Herefordshire FA Burghill Cup semi-final at Tenbury Town on Saturday (2pm).
