WORCESTER men enjoyed a comprehensive 26-point victory in the prestigious Midland Veterans Track and Field Cup final at Nunnery Wood.

It was sweet revenge for the 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2008 champions over rivals Rugby and Northampton for a five-point deficit inflicted last season.

The ladies’ team, missing key athletes, suffered their first defeat in more than two years when second to Rugby and Northampton.

Both teams secured their ‘A’ final place with wins in four meetings as they retained their league titles.

Worcester also retained the Central Television Trophy for combined scores by 433.5 to Rugby and Northampton’s 431.5 points.

In 36 events, Worcester men won 12, had 11 second places and nine third positions.

The 400-metre hurdles world champion Richard White won the men’s over 50s 200m and 800m and was runner-up in the over 40s 200m hurdles and 100m.

He also ran legs of the 4x400m and 4x100m relays with Worcester finishing first and second respectively.

Marc Flannery accumulated 29 points with victories in the pole vault and long jump, second in the triple jump and third in the high jump.

Pete Stewart won the men’s over 50s pole vault and was third in the long jump.

Laurence Oldfield finished first in the over 60s 100m and 400m and second in the 200m.

Ex-club record holder Damon Cripps returned after nearly 25 years.

He won the over 35s hammer and over 40s shot, with a new club record, and was second in the discus.

Chris Ward was second in the over 60s 3,000m and fourth in the over 50s 1,500m with new club records.

Mike Small, who was best male athlete in the league’s south division, won the over 60s shot and discus with second in the javelin and third in the hammer.

Dave Hall was third in the 400m and 3,000m, Richard Houchin second in the over 40s 200m, Nick Hitchings third and fourth in the over 40s 800m and 1,500m respectively and Rob Hurley second in the over 35s 100m.

Dave Hope finished third in the 2,000m walk and fourth in the high jump, Roger King third in the over 60s triple jump, Alec Taylor second in the javelin, Les Scrivens third in the 2,000m walk and Richard Perkins fifth in the over 60s 100m.

For the women, Pamela Murray was second in the over 35s 200m hurdles and over 40s 400m, while Becky Freeman set a season’s best in the over 35s 800m and was second in the 3,000m.

Ros Townsend-Hope ran the over 60s 100m, 200m and 800m before securing points in the over 50s 400m.

Cat Goulder-Davies was third in the over 35s 100m and won the over 40s 200m.

Iris Holder won the over 70s 100m, was third in the over 60s high jump and also did well in the over 40s triple jump.

Team manager Mel Garland finished fourth in the over 50s 100m, second in the long jump and won the triple jump.

Amanda Steer was fourth in the over 40s 1,500m, while Gill Repton and Liz Bowers did the 2km race walk.

Repton was fourth in the over 40s hammer and Bowers second in the over 60s 1,500m.

Jan Timberlake won the over 35s javelin and also scored points in the long jump.

Marion Loveridge claimed the over 50s hammer and was second in the over 35s shot.

Pam Price won the over 60s discus and did well in the shot.
