BRANSFORD Golf Club members are getting set to celebrate its 25th anniversary year.

The club, which opened in late April 1992, will be marking the occasion with three special competitions over the May Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

It will involve all three membership sections - the main club, ladies and seniors.

One of the competitions taking place on Friday, May 26, is the Joe Farr Memorial Trophy which is played in honour of the original owner of the course and The Bank House Hotel, who died in 2012.

There is also the Anniversary Cup competition on Saturday which is offering a special hole-in-one prize for an ace on the par three 15th hole.

This will be followed by the club’s anniversary dinner in the evening at The Bank House Hotel and there is a further team fun competition on Monday.

A special 32-page Anniversary Souvenir Booklet is also being published to mark the occasion and will be released on the night of the dinner.

The ladies section organised a competition in aid of Cancer Research which saw a total of just over £500 raised. The winning trio on 125 points, which included use of a pink ball for double points, were Ferey Ghani, Dave Miller and John Phillips who pipped Harry Corbett, Graham Thomas and Peter Anthony on count-back.

Third were Marshall Smart, Neil Cask and Ian Pritchard who finished with 120.

Only one player managed to top the magic 40 points mark in the Senior Captain’s Charity at Bransford Golf Club and it saw Paul Edlin a clear winner by three points.

It was a welcome return to form for the 25-handicapper after recent struggles but his success has brought about a cut in his handicap down to 23.

Edlin finished ahead of Bill Bowen on 38 and June Atkinson 36, with two other challengers on 35 in Gerry Rebbeck and Graham Thomas.

There was an entry list of 51 and seniors captain Alan Wallcroft, thanked everyone who had taken part. He also announced the event, including a raffle, had raised £200 towards his chosen charity for the year, Guide Dogs Worcestershire.
