IAN Goddard secured a club record weight on the River Severn at Holdfast to win Malvern Anglers’ Taylor Cup match.
A large shoal of bream settled to feed at the shallower upstream end of the water as Goddard accumulated a substantial number of them.
Goddard used a swim feeder with single red maggot bait and then changing to worms.
His winning weight of 68-0-0 broke the record by about 20 pounds. In the next peg, Richard Webster also beat the previous best with a similar net of bream. But he just fell short of the winner by a fish or two for a close second place weight of 62-6-0.
Chris Loveridge found a few bream from the tail end of the shoal to finish third with 18-0-0.
Results: 1 Goddard 68-0-0, 2 Webster 62-6-0, 3 Loveridge 18-0-0, 4 Lane 11-1-0, 5 Harris 8-8-0, 6 Richards 6-4-0, 7 Bayliss 5-8-0, 8 Roberts 4-14-0, 9 Shaw 3-7-0, 10 Rees 2-0-0.
